There are so many reasons you might want a super-smart, AI-driven Lumistar TERO Pro ball machine in your court: it quickly amortizes to a price below the going rate for a private lesson; it’s light and easily maneuvered to your court of choice; its voice-command feature means you can literally tell it what to do and it will do it.
We at Racquet played with the TERO Pro outdoors, in the wind, and it performed admirably. Its battery power means it’s light and agile, but it delivers a surprisingly powerful topspin baseline ball. The voice command unit on your wrist means you need simply say “forehand topspin” and it begins to do so. There’s also a “moonball” command but that seems like a form of torture so we don’t recommend it.
If you think we’re going back to the enormous, heavy, indoor-only hulks we’ve heretofore lugged onto court and played against, you’re mistaken. We’re hooked. And we can think of a number of archetypes who’d also get the benefit of a Lumistar: the beginning player who hasn’t built a huge cohort (the TERO Pro can play like anyone you might encounter in a match or in a clinic, targeting your weakest shot like a crafty opponent); the middling baseliner who needs to round out their game if they want to improve (the machine will assess your strokes in a 60-shot program, and tell you what to fix); and the trainer who’s experiencing an existential crisis (feeling like you’ve lost your touch? This machine hears your instructions and does EXACTLY what you told it to do, perfectly. Turns out, you are a good coach!).
